BlackBerry Cool Staging: Weekly Contest: ‘Why do you want 3G?’

  • preuegl · 1 year ago
and honestly how many people have 3G coverage in the first place. Sure if you live in a big city.
  • MC · 1 year ago
carriers and device manufactures just hype up 3G as a new selling feature, or a competative edge. Sure there are applications that are suited for 3G, but for everday network usage it's really not that important. I bet the average user doens't know much about 3G other than the hype they've had pushed in their faces.

Because 3 is the magic number!
  • Ray J Bilyk · 1 year ago
I would just like to be at that next level... I want to be able to get fast access and new features that many companies are afraid to release because we're not 'up there' yet...

I also want to make my friends and family jealous by getting a sweet 'Blackberry Cool' shirt!

Oh, and roman411... 3 may be the magic number, but 4 is one more than 3 and therefore, more magical!
  • DavidB · 1 year ago
But Ray and Roman, 42 is the secret to the universe, so I want 42G!

I have no 3G GSM available to me and I live but 25 miles from the nation's capitol, so I'd tend to agree with preuegl. Then again, I have plenty of EVDO, hence my provider is EVDO not GSM. I had a GSM berry initially, and the difference for web browsing (for ME at least) between what that offered versus EVDO is incredible.

But there's no doubt that my EVDO berry (8830) is FAR worse for battery life than my GSM berry was. I am lucky to get through an entire business day without needing a recharge.

i want 3g and beyond. because i want a device the size of my curve or the new bold to be able to be as fast and do everything my home computer does in the palm of my hands from anywhere i am. if i had my way every device would be 5g. and cover the planet with wi-fi. free wi-fi. make everyone happy. bless on to thee oh bold and beyond.
  • Giri Mobile · 1 year ago
I was 3G because I don't see why handsets (such as my new curve) cant keep up with technology. I have used 3G in Japan and can see a significant difference in its abilities. Since abilities bring oppurtunities than the sky would be the limit.

Great looking blog by the way !!!!!

Because I can get old without help.

David for your battery problem try something like this item (http://www.blackberrysource.com/store/catalog.a...) to keep in your car to give you extra battery life.

Oh come on guys where are all the real answers....atleast the techy ones
    - video and music streaming.
    - dowloading attachments.
    - web browsing... seems fast now but when flash and better browser features come you'll be begging for 3G.
    - video calling - in my dreams!
    - voice and data at the same time. "what?? let me goggle that" I'll put you on speaker".. Awesome!!!!!
Too many to list. 3G is a must have for anyone who wants to step their berry game up....

    Why 3G?

TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE MAIL, PHONE, AND SMS IN THE SAME TIME!!!

ONLY 3G CAN DO THAT. AS FOR NOW, WHEN YOU'RE ON THE PHONE, YOU CAN'T SEND EMAIL OR SMS WITH YOUR 87XX OR 88XX
  • -tom- · 1 year ago
    UPS, I MEANT NOT 87XX BUT 83XX
  • Rob · 1 year ago
currently using EVDO on the train and in hotels that charge. it is a great option. Would be nice if this was avaialable on a GSM phone as EDGE is not usable.
  • FuturDreamz · 1 year ago
I only want 3G if there is enough coverage. Here in Okotoks we have no Rogers Vision, yet we are only half an hour away from Calgary, which does. RIM is smart to include both EDGE and HSDPA on the Bold.

If the iPhone has 3G but no EDGE, I doubt it will be sucessful enough to threaten the BlackBerry up here.

I live in Ecuador, where recently one of three carriers sells 3G products and services, such as live TV and fast downloads.
I actually own an 8100 BB, limited, if you know others BBs with more functions. But, i am so waiting for an 3G BB to change my device. Live TV? Fast downloads? Fast web browsing? Hell yeah! welcome BB Bold! (3.2Mp camera is also needed)
  • Daniel J, Montesdeoca · 1 year ago
fore more info, they sell 3G services, and with BB it will be a flat rate of $19.99/month, still!

    I want 3G so I can have High-speed Web Navigation/maps
and Video Streaming/Conference. Also able to surf web, receive emails during calls.
  • Bla1ze · 1 year ago
I want 3G because the carriers and device manufacturers force it into my brain that I "NEED" 3G to be anybody in this ever growing fast paced world of I want what I want when I want it, and I want it now damnit!!
  • Bla1ze · 1 year ago
PS: By the time 3G gets widespread to all areas not just major cities, carriers and manufacturers will be pushing LTE (4G) into our brains as well.

I use XM Radio on my blackberry so with 3G the audio stream should be much better. Also web surfing faster would be nice.

I want 3G so Blackberrycool.com loads faster, duh

More faster and easier solutions for emailing, web browsing and multimedia (just to name a few) may come with a 3G handheld in hand. Personally I use Pcmobilizr a lot to remote monitor and control my PC, it is a magic application but never comes in handy (at least not on EDGE network). I always get a laggy respond while using it my Curve 8310 -- too small screen resolution (320*240) to fully browse my 1920*1280 desktop, and too slow motion to wirelessly control my PC. hmmm, yes my thumbnails really hurt. I believe a 3G Bold or a Thunderstorm will end my pain experience on that.

Not initial but very essential, a high resolution and 3G Bold or Thunderstorm will no doubt let GPS real-time traffic reminding, geo-tracking and navigation faster
and much useful, even the map data load speed will boost like hell!

Yeah, I just can't wait to say hello to my little new friend Bold ft. 3G! :)
  • wifiguy · 1 year ago
Looks like you need 3g because then you were know that they were spyshots of the BB Thunder on BGR!!!!

As an example, weather.com has the video weather forecast you can download and watch. I have done it on my Curve but it is really slow. 3G would help tremendously.
  • Willas · 1 year ago
I agree with -Tom- but he is wrong in case of the sms.
It,s not only a question of speed.
The BB with 3G it's able, in theorie, to receive email during a voice or video-call.
I,ve the experience from 8707v and it's not only email.
For applications sincronizing and uploading data e wonderful.
Battery it's important but we have a lot of solutions for that problem.
    Welcome again UMTS Blackberrys.

I think 3g is just the next big thing. Yea we will enjoy it and can't wait to get it but they hype us up all the time with newer software and then we wait like forever to get it. Where's 4.5, come on.
