BlackBerry Cool Staging: AIM and ICQ available for BlackBerry?

  • Kevin · 2 years ago
I got it installed without an issue, but when I go to sign in, it says "Please visit www.blackberry.com/aim to activate your handheld for AOL Instant Messenger" - but when I go there, the page just says: "AOL Instant Messenger for BlackBerry - Downloads via a USB connection are not enabled for this product. Please visit our mobile download site at using the browser on your BlackBerry® smartphone." even though it's already installed.

    Soooooo close!

BBF member Jungleland was the one who actually found the AIM link. Not sure if he knew about the ICQ link or not but on a whim I tried it and it pulled up the ICQ page.

Still unable to get it to work however the process has started anyway.

    Again thanks Jungleland.

Diddo, got it installed and got the same message. I have a Pearl with Cingular/AT&T. I am sure this will have to allowed by the carriers and tracked via the messaging server so that Cingular can gouge us for each individual message.

I get the same problem. Has anyone gotten it to work?

Jibi (BBF Moderator) saw these coming over 6 months ago. I am sure a lot of people are going to be happy to see them finally become available.

Does this mean that when it works im's won't be treated as text messages?

I think they will be made publicly available on April 11 when RIM disclose their Q4 results.

I downloaded the Live Messenger client and got it installed. However when I tried to sign on, it complains about the service book missing.

From experience they usually push the service book and the apps when the software is available (remember Yahoo and GoogleTalk) I didnt have to download those apps and one day after they announce these become publicly availble they got pushed onto my 8700. I am keeping my fingers crossed that April 11 will be the day.

I installed the AIM on my unlocked 8800 on T-Mobile and had no problems logging on. I still like JiveTalk better though.

8700g on Tmo, still getting redirected. Cant wait to be able to ditch the OZ IM client. Stopped using IM+ because I had to manually sign back after each phone call and the GUI was poor.

I also get the error message on my Alltel 8703.
How do I get this to work?

Just a heads up, although AIM was released for Blackberry, if you are with Cingular as a service carrier, then you are lucked out. The program will install properly, but when you go to sighn on get a error message. Please visit www.blackberry.com/aim to activate your handheld for AOL Instant Messenger” Look familiar??..Spend 8 hours on Customer service, the conclusion is that they dont support it completely yet...The all New AT@T Wireless.

When i tried to downlod AIm on my Berry 8700c (AT&T service provider) It rells me "Sorry, you wireless Service Provider does not allow access to AOL IM for Blackberry for your device.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

Hey, I was trying to find out how to get AIM on my new curve, and there is a download at http://wireless.sra.com/ramble/ to get it. It's free, but I'm not sure if AT&T will charge me or not. It's Sunday, and so I can't call today and ask. I downloaded it and it works, but if I am hit with a charge, there is going to be some issues.

Anyone knows to make the aim work on a blackberry 8800, I downloaded of www.blackberry.com/aim, when I go to sign in it tells me that I need to visit that same website to register my handheld, how do I do that if you do... Can you reply to me at v.joseph@tmo.blackberry.net
